This project repurposes old t-shirts into stylish tote bags, providing a practical solution for reducing textile waste while creating functional accessories.
To make a tote bag, gather several old t-shirts, scissors, and optionally, a sewing machine or needle and thread. Start by selecting t-shirts with fun prints or colors. Cut off the sleeves and the neckline to create the bag's opening.
Then, turn the shirt inside out and sew or tie the bottom hem securely. If sewing, you can create a reinforced bottom by sewing across the bottom seam.
For added strength, consider layering two shirts together. Once finished, turn the bag right side out, and it’s ready to use for groceries or casual outings. This method allows for creativity in design, and you can customize the bag size based on the t-shirt used.
